Stravent will supply air curtains for the Kaitaa, Soukka and Espoonlahti stations of the West Metro
An extension of the West Metro is under construction from Matinkylä in Espoo to Kivenlahti. In all, a seven kilometre long line and five new stations are under construction: Finnoo, Kaitaa, Soukka, Espoonlahti and Kivenlahti.

The construction contract for the Kaitaa and Soukka stations will be carried out by a consortium of YIT Construction Oy and Are Oy. SRV Rakennus Oy is the contractor for the Espoonlahti station. Granlund Oy is responsible for the HVAC design of the stations. The architectural design of Kaitaa station has been planned by PES-Arkkitehdit Oy, while the design of the Soukka and Espoonlahti stations is the responsibility of Arkkitehtitoimisto ALA Oy.
Biddle air curtain units
High-quality intelligent and high-performance Biddle air curtain units were selected for the projects. Stravent will deliver a total of 32 SR air curtain units for the stations’ platform-level escalator and elevator lobbies as well as for the ground level main doors in 2020.
The most significant qualitative differences in the units are in their SFP value and in the automation, i.e. how the air curtain is controlled and how it is able to take into account door heights and changing conditions. Biddle units are selected and tuned according to the door size. The design air volume of the air curtain is adjusted according to the door size (width x height) and calculations are prepared for this. For devices from other manufacturers, the installation height is not taken into account in the same way, and the device cannot be dimensioned in the same way for a specific door size.
The site on the edge of the old church park will become Helsinki’s largest congress hotel. The office building will be renovated into a 350-room hotel and is scheduled for completion in summer 2022.
